The biggest scientific meeting in Turku in 2019 – a sustainable success

Academy Professor Craig Primmer together with evolutionary biologists from the University of Turku organized the ESEB 2019 Congress in Turku, Logomo, without compromising the principles of sustainable development. 1300 participants from 47 countries arrived to Turku to take part in the 6 day conference which according to feedback from the participants, was a great success. Close attention to detail was paid throughout the congress to minimize  environmental impact. In addition to physical attendance, to encourage free science, researchers from around the world were able to view the congress presentations through online live and recorded streams.

Aboa Congress and Event services helped out with all practical arrangements, handled registration and payment processes, budgeting, administered abstract submission process, as well as website and app.

We were excited to be involved in oganizing the ESEB2019, the biggest congress in Turku in 2019. But to run a successful congress, you need a network of local partners as well. I’m happy to say that we enjoyed excellent cooperation with all parties involved: Logomo (venue), Sunborn (catering), Rajulive (techique), Kajahdus (website), Muumimaailma (dinner venue) and City of Turku (promoting), just to name a few.

Customer feedback

“It was a pleasure to work with Aboa in arranging ESEB2019. Their knowledge of local service providers was critical for turning my (sometimes vague) visions into practical solutions so that I, as main organizer, could focus more on the scientific content of the congress. We particularly wanted to minimize environmental impacts, and Aboa, in co-operation with various local partners, was able to provide great solutions for this. The quality of Aboa’s services is perhaps best reflected by the feedback survey, where a number of respondents chose ‘great organisation’ as the one of the best overall aspects of the congress. I strongly recommend them as organisers of meetings of any size!”

Thank you a lot! It has been an amazing conference! Organization was perfect and every little detail was thought ahead.

Great congress! Gave a very good impression of Finland.

Thanks to the organizers for a great meeting! It was clear they had taken the time to think about all the small annoying things at other congresses, and found ways to solve them (e.g. double sided name tags), which showed how much they cared. You did an amazing job! Thanks!

Very well organized! Had a great time. It was my favorite conference yet!

Well done, I really enjoyed it, it was the best large conference for me so far (out of about 10). Great organisation, nothing to complain about.

Thanks to the organizers for an excellently planned and executed conference.

Thanks for a fabulous conference!
